The city of Tangier in Morocco hosted the third edition of the “Moroccan Lighting Days for Africa” on 11 and 12 June 2026. This scientific conference was attended by a select group of professionals, public and private sector leaders, representatives of local authorities, architects, experts from engineering consultancies, lighting designers, as well as representatives from several industrial companies and start-ups specialising in energy and environmental technologies.
The International Network of Arab and African Journalists was present at this event, represented by Dr El Mahjoub Bensaid, head of the training, studies and research committee.
This scientific event served as an excellent platform for exchanging views and ideas on the challenges and innovations in the lighting sector in support of sustainable development in Africa, whilst also marking a leading professional and strategic gathering.
Mr Amine Serraj, founder and organiser of the event, explained that his organisation’s aim is to make lighting a genuine tool for the development of urban and rural areas in Africa. It also aims to strengthen partnerships by emphasising networking in order to create concrete business opportunities by connecting exhibitors and sponsors with project leaders and decision-makers, whilst encouraging local solutions through the promotion of African knowledge and expertise and the encouragement of investment.
The event’s programme included four high-level round-table discussions, during which several presentations addressed vital issues associated with digital and environmental transformations, namely:
1. Smart lighting and artificial intelligence (Smart Lighting & AI), through the integration of modern technologies and artificial intelligence to manage lighting networks flexibly and efficiently.
2. Light pollution, sustainability and environmental conservation, by reducing the negative effects of excessive lighting whilst promoting the energy transition.
3. Financing and manufacturing within the African lighting ecosystem, through the exploration of innovative financing mechanisms and the development of a strong and independent continental industry.
4. Case studies and presentations by partners (Study Cases), as part of sessions dedicated to showcasing solutions, on-the-ground innovations and success stories from sponsoring companies.
